Download UPSC Preliminary New Syllabus (PDF) 2011 Details. From 2011, UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Test new syllabus will be on “aptitude for civil services” as well as on “ethical and moral dimension of decision making” under a Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). Both these objective tests will be common and compulsory for all.

UPSC prelims examination syllabus has changed. UPSC has changed the pattern and syllabus for the civil services prelims-examination from 2011. Candidates who aspiring to be civil servants, would not now need to appear in two compulsory exams of 200 marks of two hours of duration. This was officially released by the UPSC. Candidates now appearing for the Civil Service Examinations, would not prepare for the optional subjects. CSAT will provide equality with its level playing field due to the same question papers.

According to new syllabus, the sources said -

Paper-I includes current events of National and International importance, History of India and Indian National Movement, Indian and World Geography-physical, economic geography of the India and of the world.
Political System, Consitution, Indian Polity and governance, Economic and Social Development, Sustainable Development, Poverty, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change, Rights Issues, Public Policy, Political System, Poverty, Social Sector initiatives etc. will also included in Paper-I.

CSAT’s Paper-II will include the subjects like General Mental Abiliy, Interpersonal Skills including communication skills, Logical reasoning and anaylytical ability, General Science, Basic Numeracy(10 class level), Decision making and problem solving(10 class level), data interpretation(Class 10 level), english language comprehension skills(10 class level).
